2010 Manchester Community Charity Dragon Boat Race
After success on Sunday 9th August 2009, this year Manchester Oriental Organisations Alliance is hosting the 2010 event on Sunday 1st August at Salford Water Sports Centre (next to Lowry Outlet Mall).
We had 36 teams which was the maximum number of teams for a one-day event. This will remain unchanged in 2010. The enrolment fee will also remain unchanged at £320.00 per team. This fee will contribute to the overall operating costs including hiring of the event company, insurance, venue and other related core expenses.
Each boat can accommodate a maximum of 16 crew members and a drummer. The Event Company staff will be responsible for the steering. You can enroll more than 16 so that people can take turn to row and each team will have at least 3 races in the preliminary rounds. Teams with best timing will then proceed to the knock out stages until we have the final six.
The event will start from 0900 hours until 1730 hours. There will be food stalls serving different ethnic cuisines and drinks at reasonable prices.
The traditional cultural and contemporary performances from various community groups and exhibition stalls set up on the landside have always added an Oriental flavour.
It has been an excellent opportunity as an organisation's team building exercise and will definitely be an enjoyable fun-filled family day.
Cancer Research, Red Cross, Help the Aged and Christie Hospital are the preferred Charities of the event. They form part of the Preparatory Committee. To support your charities you may:
1. Collect sponsorship form through us
2. Agree with them on the fixed amount which will be collected together with the enrolment fee i.e. any amount above £320 will go to your charity.
3. Make a separate donation and send it to the charities.
Please note that the Charity's sponsorship form will only be distributed when your team has been enrolled to ensure the forms are used correctly.
You can certainly choose a charity of own as long as they are declared and reported to the organisers of this event so that everyone will have a clear idea of where the money has gone to.
A register has been created to record the enrolments. It will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. The deadline for Enrolment fee is 1st May 2010. You will be safe to secure a place before the deadline by paying up the Entry Fee in full.
The 2010 register is now open and we already have 10 teams on the list. Please send me an email providing your contact details: telephone number, email, correspondence address and your team's name/organisation. I'll confirm with you as soon as possible.
To arrange a practice on a "Bell Boat" you can contact Salford Water Sports Centre directly on 0161 877 7252 or Fax 0161 877 6987.
Please give this the widest publication.
Please feel free to contact me direct for any further enquiries.

Newsletter-April
1. What a lovely weather and hope you all have had a wonderful Easter break.
Finally the Spring sun has re-appeared bringing the warm front with it and
it's that time of the year to get something organised for the Summer. Hope it's not going to be World Cup and World Cup only!
2. Update on Team Enrolment
As of today we have 25 teams on our 2010 Register.
They include Greater Manchester Police, Probation Service, Salford Council, Manchester Scouts, Housing Associations and companies from the private sector. The maximum capacity for this event is 36 teams and inevitably we will have withdrawals from the registered teams closer to the race day and therefore we need more teams to come in now.
If you are registered already your place is guaranteed up to 1st May unless the Entry Fee is paid up in full and a receipt is issued by M.O.O.A. After the date it will be on a first-come-first -serve basis.
3. The defending champion, Cheshire Police and the champion of 2008, Wing Yip, have both confirmed their participation to battle on the permanent ownership of the Manchester
Community Charity Dragon Boat Race Trophy this year. The rule is that any team who wins the race twice within three years will own the trophy forever and M.O.O.A. will have to provide another one for the event. We have been organising this Charity event for the last six years and this has not happened yet.
If you are contemplating lifting the trophy these are the two teams to watch out for and the target average time should be around 50 seconds! Last year we saw Cheshire Police finishing the final with 51.85 secs but the challengers from North West Ambulance Service and Manchester Airport Fire Service coming extremely close.
4. Don't miss out this year.
We looking forward to meeting you all again on Sunday 1st August at Salford Water Sports Centre.
5. For further info please visit our website www.mooa.org.uk or contact me direct.
Take good care and have a nice weekend.
